Well I know that many in the hospital arena have used dogs for treatment purposes especially in children's sections, so I am sure that horses could have some of the very same therapeutic benefits.

there are many special needs summer camps for children with a variety of disabilities. most of the time we see horse back riding in these situations. children really respond to these gentle smart creatures. they are a gift from God.

definately horses have a therapeutic effect... like the previous poster said, horses are great and created profound responses in special needs people. we've seen this done for many years

I've seen training centers posted for training humans to work with the kids or adults that will be in therapy with horses. Did that make sense? It is a lovely mixture of sseeing docile and seeing the strength of the horse at the same time. God's beauty and gentleness.

Even have special saddles and special riding devices so that people with disabilities can ride and not have any issues.

I think the biggest groups are out west in the rockies and then in the east in the Appalachia's.

Can you name some of the camps in the East (Southeast preferably) that you know about? We have a real need. I want to be very careful and speak to people that have been there.

I found this on the Easter Seals site.

Maybe this will be a good start.
