random thought from watching the macy's day parade yesterday. i'm not a big fan of parades, but i always find that on major holidays i'll pause the tv on a channel w/ a parade for at least 5 minutes. i noticed something yesterday as most of the floats really are floating these days. back in the ole days (starting in the early 1900's), floats used to be pulled by horses. the big parades back in the 1930's used to have to borrow horses from all around to tow all the floats for big parades. now it seems like everything is inflatable and we get people to simply hold the strings. the downside of that was when i saw a flashback to a few years ago when the strings got caught on a street lamp, knocked it over and people got injured. maybe if we had stuck w/ horse drawn floats, many of the incidents that happen in parades today could have been avoided. just have to deal w/ scooping up the droppings!
