I own a 10 year old 15hh Quarter horse who I have started basic dressage training with her, she goes very nicely and moves forward and likes her training (most of the time)
She was bought as a trail horse for me and my sister but I developed an interest in show jumping and dressage and I am leaning towards further dressage training. So my question is should I keep on with her or look for a better horse and just have my sister ride her as a trail horse and in the smaller competitions which is what I think she may be suited for?
Does anyone have and suggestions on a good breed for a dressage horse? I am thinking of a Warm blood or Thoroughbred?

Warmbloods are great at dressage but can carry a hefty price tag :( Thoroughbreds are also good as well. All breeds are capable of performing dressage it really depends on what level you are looking to achieve. Other breeds to consider are Morgans, Arabs and Andulusians. I think temperament is also a big factor. If you are looking at competing at higher levels then you are going to have to pay more for a horse that can and is capable of the moves required. If you are just looking to do the lower levels then your Quarter horse mare should be more than enough for you to compete on.

Good luck on your search!

I cant go past the TB for dressage and jumping. They are so smart and trainable (mostly)
