Hi Brooklyn,
What you spend is what you get with arenas, surface prep is important. We used 3 different cuts of rock starting with the heaviest at the bottom for god drainage. we also did 1/2 metre slope from one side to the other for run off. A pet hate of mine is white sand or shell grit, its almost blinding in the sun, we get to wear sunnys, but our horses dont! google it there is lots of info available! Good luck

One question on this subject. The farm I work at just plowed it's old arena. The ground is really soft and it worked fine for a while....until it rained real heavily! Now, its slosh. They added a shavings mix to help the ground stay softer longer. Now it's all mud. Do any of you have any suggestions on footing to help with draining or a simple material you can add to help?
