I am in dire need of assistance. I have a standardbred pony cross, 14.1. He has the standardbred high whithers, and a long horse back. I have been through three saddles with him, and cannot find one that fits him. Here's the problem:
He needs a high pommel, 6 to 6 1/4 gullet, semi to quarter bars. I need a 14-14 1/2 seat, western. I'd like to find a good quality one used. Any one have any suggestions? While I enjoy barebacking him, he's awfully bony. :p

Depending on where you live and who is around there...but I hadd the same problem with my appendix quarter horse he has high whithers and a low back and rear..so we looked in the phone book and found a guy that makes saddles =] I have had this saddle for 5 years and have had no problems with him and the saddle. =]

I think I've determined that he needs a gaited saddle, he's got a very standardbred build. Any suggestions on a good brand to look at? Most of the ones I'm finding, like Big Horn, start at 6 1/2" gullet and 16" seat. : (

Several of my friends ride this one - http://www.montanamountainhorse.com/gaited_horse_saddles/.

I think they make a pretty good saddle now it will set you back a good bit, but dollar for dollar it is a great hand made saddle. I would advice looking around e-bay to see if you can pick one up. Or post somewhere on the forum that you wish to buy one.
