Hi!
I was taught to ride by an English instructor so I ride in a general purpose saddle for trail riding and a jumping saddle for jumping and eventing.
I have only ridden Western a few times, its very comfortable for trail riding but I prefer English saddles.
What is showmanship?
Cheers!

I ride Western for trail and pleasure, but have been thinking about getting an Aussie saddle for my standardbred/pony.

I ride English mostly. I plan to show on the local hunter/jumper circuit this coming season. I sometimes trail ride western but usually I just use my schooling saddle!

I ride in an english jumping saddle when I jump, and a western saddle for trail and endurance riding. I do a little reining at home but I don't have enough time to start showing yet so I haven't invested in a good reining saddle. I train my horses mostly bareback and I expose them to western first then english simply for the fact that for the most part I have trained Arabians or half Arabians and because if their spirited nature they can get pretty jumpy when there is lots of leather on their back. I try to get them over that very early so that it makes the rest of the training process alot easier. (Nothing against Arabians of course! They are my favorites :D All of my horses have always been Arabians.)

(for the Arab part)
Every horse is different.
It's not the breed it's the individual horse, there temperament is different And so forth. I myself own an Arabian x Andalusian typical Arab head with the andi body He is fine, shown as a colt/stallion up until he was 4 gelded then i brought him and he's now 9. Never put a foot wrong, training him and all.

We use both an English saddle and a Western saddle. I usually prefer the English saddle.
