I prefer pellets. They are easier to manage. and they keep your stalls cleaner. If you havent tried them I strongly suggest it. =]

Great suggestion. I posted a thread below looking for some help. My issue is that the local sawmill has closed so now I will have to import bedding. Do you have a good source for the pellets?

I am currently using pellets. The great thing about them is they produce hardly any dust and stable maintence is a lot lower than using straw or wood shavings The ones I am using at the moment are really absorbent so cleaning has been a lot quicker as I am taking less of the material out. The only downside I found was the initial prepartaion of the stable.
I used shavings for a while but they are not very absorbent, waste was higher and they were horribly dusty.

What type of stable prep work did you do to get your area ready for the pellets.
Each of our stables has a 2 foot to 3 foot diameter circle with about a 2 foot hole dug into it with pea gravel placed into the pit. The bottom is then graded to this hole.
A little unconventional but the way that it has been for about 40 years and it works to allow drainage. The stalls then had about 2-3 inches of shavings.
What would i need to do to make the transition to the pellets.

yes, i have allergies, seasonal, household, and yearround. it's a pain. i find the pellets don't produce the dust shavings do. for an allergy sufferer this is a goldmine!
