My boy is barefoot right now, but I'd be interested to know your opinions of shoeing vs. leaving natural. Hoovie has nice hard healthy hooves, but I wonder if it wouldn't help his ankles and his gait to be shod.

would love to hear an educated opinion about this. I always imagine great pain for the horse if it is not shod

I think the general care of the hooves is the most important. I still have an sick feelign when i think of horses who's hooves have grown out and splayed to the point of cracking. It's nasty and so cruel. Care and attention are the most important . . . regardless. Though I do prefer shod.

dillannie has hit the nail on the head, or rather on the hoof! Making sure your feet are properly maintained makes a long way towards a healthy horse. Don't yuo feel bad if your feet hurt?

We like barefoot right now. Barefoot doesn't mean you leave 'em and forget about 'em. Trims and inspections are very important. Also please be careful where you ride your barefoot horses.
I'ts a decision you make with yourself, your farrier and your vet.

At what point do you consider the hoof out of shape? I've tried both ways. I'm always paranoid that I'm getting their hooves out of line.
