Well progress here in SC is moving at an absolute horrid paste. We just received news that over 1000 acres of prime farm land has been purchased by VW for a potential plant build.
I knew the farmer personally that owned this acreage and he was a great guy. Quarterhorses, and holstein cattle were his prime source of income. Now he has handed that all over to the "Man" and is getting out. I really don't even want to think what is going to happen with the rest of our lands.

I guess that is the price that all of us have to pay in the name of "progress". We have to all be willing to make a serious committment to our environment otherwise all of our fertile lend is going to be cleared just to make way for more industry. Is this really the progress we want to make?

Not really- we are destroying our environment all for bigger homes and developments and shopping centers. Enough already!

I have to say that I agree wholeheartedly but for all of us that feel this way there are 100 more who do not. They want more convenient shopping and more roads without paying any attention at all to what we are doing to our health as well as the health of all of the pets and animals. We have to voice our opinions and be heard and hopefully then we will all be able to make a change in the way our country is heading with its obvious destruction of the land.

Do any of you know of any good grass roots organizations who will really take our concerns to heart and help all of us get our voices heard? Sometimes it is so easy to tak about these things at homes and in these forums, and while they are great for educating others and drumming up interest, sometimes I feel like we just have to do more. I guess our congressmen and women are the first places we should start and we can all mount massive letter writing campaigns so that those in government can hear our concerns!

what i have come to learn is when zoning laws change it may mean people must sell because they can no longer afford the taxes on huge acreage. we are dealing with zoning issues here, we need some zoning but not so extreme that much of our farm land becomes commercial and therefore unaffordable.

I've only been able to keep our family's property due to forestry tax abatements. It takes it down to the almost ridiculous. We've been approached so many times asking to buy so they can put in bunches of 7000 - 10000 homes up on our mountainside. It is a shame. Where is moderation?

I'm assumming you meant 7000 - 10000 square foot homes on your property. Or do you own that much land? You're a rare property owner if you do!
