Hi
The VSD saddle is good, what brand were you looking at as several different saddle companies make them.
I am not sure what short legs has to do with the fit of a saddle  but I would get a good saddle fitter in to make sure the saddle fits well.
Your other option would be to maybe look at saddles with the 'easy change gullet system' - Wintec, Bates, Collegiate etc. These saddles allow you to change the tree size of the saddle to fit your horse as horses like humans change shape and size too over the years so your saddle will always fit :)

I always have to kind of chuckle. Most people don't think of their horses changing weight . . . just like their riders over the years. Saddles are a lasting investment. Choose a good fitter.

Dependent upon your horse be very careful with the saddle weight. I speak from experience. I couldn't figure out for several months what happened to my laid back trail-riding horse. A friend asked off the top one day if I had gotten a new saddle. Eureka!
