1st year health concerns

What are some of the most common first year health concerns that horse owners must be on the lookout for? I think alot of times when we all get new animals we are a little unaccustomed as to what to look for and the developmental stages of the animal so I am trying to do the right research before making the committment of ownership.

i agree, people often get in over their heads. i know there are different risks and diseases in different climates or parts of the country. i'd ask a local large animal vet what to look out for in your area.. they can give you a general cost estimate as well. any vets out there?
