how young should kids be to ride on their own? i've seen some that look like they can barely walk.. have neices who want to ride at our place but i feel they are too young. any ideas?

like riding a bike, kids are ready at their own pace. look at the maturity level of the child, it's very important they can follow your directions with no problem. it's never too early to put them on with you to develop the feel and love of the horse.

I definitely agree that you have to take to heart each individual child's maturity and readiness level. Put them on before they are ready and you are likely to create a child who becomes scared of the horse for life
