How far into pregnancy can a mare bare a rider? She'd due around mid May and seems happy and healthy and energized. heard different school of thought on this. anybody have any input?

the way i understand it, you can ride up until about a month before due date. also wait at least a month after foaling before riding her again. also just know your mare and ask your vet

please have your vet check out your mare to determine her situation. we've had experience with those you can ride well up until time to foal and others we were advised not to. Has the vet checked your mare?

Claudia gives the best advice on this. Has the vet checked her yet? Every horse carries differently. This is the most important factor, not a magical cut-off.

You can ride her up til 6 months after that you need to go easy on her. Definately no shows or barrel racing just nice easy going trail rides and shorter..and definately no galloping or loping! Just walk and a bit of trotting.
If she is only a month or 2 out (which she is) just ride bare back or lead her out on the trail and let her graze and walk for her to stretch her legs and have a change of scenery....she will be uncomfortable even is she has energy.
I have been thru 3 pregnancies and this is what my vet has recommended :)
