I heard the other day a horrible story of colic. Everything turned out ok in the end, the horse was fine but it was touch and go for a while.
Owner had to give horse an enema (yuck) with a garden hose because the vet was out on another emergency. Vet finally made it over and after a long night horse was moving and digestive system was working :)
anybody have any stories to share of colic?

We've been very fortunate to not have to deal with a situation that bad before. Knock on wood. All horse owners live in fear of it all the time. I've really learned about what to look for so I can help if need be. I hope we don't hear many bad stories, hope all is well with everyone one the forum.

An enema with a garden hose for colic? That would have made it worse

Was it an impactation or colic? Lucky the vet finally came out and they didn't lose the horse.

I wondered the same thing. Hmm! Might out to check about on the diagnosis. Glad the horse is just fine.

I take colic to mean about a billion different things, all related to a belly that is hurting. Mine kicked and rolled about so hard that he about knocked the vet out. Luckily, she made it through without surgery. Watch that hay binge eating from now on!

My vet is very kind to the generic use of colic. It is so unpredictable. it comes in so many forms. It's like a human saying they have a heart problem. it can be a whole host of issues.
