disease from horse

can a human catch a disease or other illness from a horse. I only know of one - rabies. I've been told we can, but exactly what can I get?

As with all animals we need to use precautions to prevent the spreading of illness. Some are salmonella, Bangs disease, anthrax, and ringworm - just to name a few. I'm sure there are others and they are rarely transmitted.

I've always wondered if I could give my horse my cold . . . which unfortunately I am suffering from right now! We were out trail riding this week up in the mountains of NC and I guess my nose got too much of a good thing! The riding wsa great though.
