Is one type of stall sawdust better?

I had someone tell me that they would only use cedar shavings, sawdust for their barns in summer because it repels insects. Has anyone else heard this? Is the price substaintially higher?

I've always gotten what was readily available from my sawmill. Never heard this philosophy. Makes sense since cedar deters insects when they are living. Check with your Ag Ext agent.
