Subcutaneous Chips?

Has anyone heard of the subcutaneous chips inserted right under the skin for horse owners? In case stolen, they could be identified quickly. I'd love some information or to hear from anyone that's used this. The modern equivalent to branding I guess.

Not with my horse, but with my dogs. It was pretty cheap. My hounds run so I feel a lot better!
