I just posted this in Alerts/Scans but it makes sense to put it here too. Has anyone had experience with the subcutaneous chips that vets insert to id animals? I'm looking for this to see if it's a viable option.

My cat has been chipped. We used the HomeAgain system, where his number is registered. Most vets and shelters now have the scanners to read the chips. He did very well with the shot, and had a small scab that fell off in a week. The chip is about the size of a white rice grain or smaller, and can barely be felt under the skin once it's been healed around.

Has anybody had experience with their horse using this technology? It makes a lot of sense to me. Is the cost excessive?
